Reading for Day 24
September 24

Col. 2:6-15
Psalm 20:1-9
Prov. 4:20-27

I love bleach. Cleaning the kitchen I love to take out the cleanser with bleach and sprinkle it out over the dirty, stained sink. And then like magic before my eyes, the ugly stains fade away and the sink is beautifully clean again.

So what is the solution for the dirty stains in our lives that come as a result of sin? Colossians puts it so well.

Colossians 2:13-14 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

And the place of cleansing is clearly stated. All of the ugliness of our sin was nailed to the cross and we are forgiven.

God paid so much for us. Sin is that ugly and He loves us that much.

We have died with and abide in Christ! A friend told me once that he use to spend so much time beating himself up over the fact that he just wasn't "doing enough" in the church and was struggling with keeping up with all of the "spiritual disciplines." He was becoming completely exasperated. But when he learned to just love Jesus- set his mind on Him, and abide in Him completely, and not his own strength(John 15:5), that it was like a massive weight lifted! Most of the things that he was so burdened about just simply followed naturally!

My favorite quote of the wk that I'd like to share is "faith is belief with feet on it" by Adrian Rogers. Hadn't thought of it that way but it put it in perspective for me. Thanks for the devotion!

When I read the Psalm today, I was reminded that even when it seems evil is prevailing in this world, God is ultimately triumphant. How much greater are his blessings to His children than the temporary successes the unrighteous attain in this world.
